“I don't think it makes sense to spend the money for Cleanshot when other apps do most of what it does for a lot less or free.”Evidence: r/macapps · Shottr vs CleanShot X in 2026. Which one are you actually sticking with?
Product context
Official or maker-supplied product information. It is kept separate from buyer evidence and independent purchase verification.
I'm Federico Infelici, the developer of Tone and the Quits Mac apps.
Tone gives each app playing audio its own volume slider and mute control in the menu bar. Turn down a browser without changing your music, or send a call to headphones while another app uses the speakers. It remembers the levels you set.
It uses Core Audio process taps, so there is no audio driver or system extension to install. macOS does require the permission named System Audio Recording; Tone uses that access to adjust audio and does not record or save it.
Tone requires macOS 14.4 or later and costs €9.99 once. A license covers five active Macs, future updates are included, and purchases have a 30-day refund policy. The app contains no analytics; it contacts Quits for licensing and updates.
The official page includes an interactive browser simulation of the controls. That simulation is not an installable trial.
